CICC College not a Crown Corporation
(5) Despite Part X of the Financial Administration Act, the College is not a Crown corporation as defined in subsection 83(1) of the College Act.
This system of self-regulation is based on the premise that the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) must act first and foremost in the interest of the public.
The Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act does not apply to the College. The College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants is a federal corporation registered with extra provincial status and its protected under the Intellectual Property trade -mark and Copyright
Consequences of intellectual property infringement"Depending on the nature of the violations, penalties may include civil damages in the dollar amount of damages and lost profits, an injunction to stop the infringement, payment of the attorneys' fees by the infringer, and felony charges with prison time."

"CICC" maintains a registry of Regulated Canadian Immigration and Citizenship Consultants ) to identify the professionals it regulates. Read more
Citizenship and Immigration Practitioners / must be members of the “CICC” to practice Citizenship and Immigration Law in Canada.
The “CICC”’s Registration Department handles all inquiries regarding the registration process.

who should practice Citizenship and Immigration law-
It is an offense punishable by law to provide Canadian immigration and Citizenship services for a fee or other consideration if not regulated by "CICC", a Canadian law society, or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
All “ICCRC” Citizenship and Immigration Members in Canada must be transitional members of the “CICC) in order to practice Citizenship and Immigration Law. Read more

How do we protect the public
The “CICC” has a legislated mandate to continuously improve the quality of care provided by Citizenship and Immigration Practitioners. One keyway in which this is achieved is through peer assessment..
The duties of the “CICC” include:
· issuing certificates of registration to “CICC” Citizenship and Immigration Members to allow them to practise Citizenship and Immigration Law
· monitoring and maintaining standards of practice through peer assessment and remediation
· investigating complaints about “CICC” Citizenship and Immigration Members on behalf of the public, and
· Conducting discipline hearings when “CICC” Citizenship and Immigration members may have committed an act of professional misconduct or incompetence. Read more
One important responsibility of the “CICC” is to respond to concerns and to investigate complaints from members of the public about CICC Citizenship and Immigration Councils licensed to practise Citizenship and Immigration Law in Canada.
“CICC” staff investigates on behalf of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee if a Client's concerns should not or cannot be resolved. Read more
Cases are referred to the Discipline Committee when a Practitioners / Councils appears to have shown a deliberate disregard for Clients welfare, engaged in reprehensible behaviour, or demonstrated extreme substandard care that does not appear capable of remediation. Read more
